Susan's background

Susan's love for hockey started her on a purpose-driven journey that continues today. A talented athlete at a young age, Susan decided that if she wanted to go to university, she would have to use these gifts as her ticket to afford the high price tag that came with the best schools. To achieve this dream, Susan broke it into smaller goals that she knew she could follow.

At 13 years old, Susan was scouted by an elite prep school in New Hampshire and offered a full scholarship to attend high school there for 4 years. After her first year away, Susan was hospitalized and after two weeks in the ICU she almost died. In a last-ditch attempt to identify the sudden cause of this life-threatening illness, Susan had one last exploratory surgery. The procedure miraculously uncovered the root cause. Specialists informed her that she would no longer lead a normal life, as the disease had no known cause or cure, only a long term plan for ongoing treatment.

Not wanting to accept this dark prognosis, Susan did her own research and learned of a professional hockey player with the same disease who was one of the best players in the N.H.L. Through a very disciplined and healthy lifestyle, Susan was able to regain her health and get back on track towards fulfilling her dreams and goals. When she turned 18, Susan was scouted by the #1 school in the world, Princeton University, where she played all 4 years on the NCAA Princeton Women's hockey team, Division One in the E.C.A.C.

Upon graduation in 2004 with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Susan returned to Toronto to play in the National Women's Hockey League (N.W.H.L)'s Toronto Aeros. The team won a National Championship and the N.W.H.L Cup which is now on display in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

Switching gears, Susan studied under the trainers of the Toronto Maple Leafs and other professional athletic teams in a bid to help others achieve their goals. When she realized the limitations of being a trainer, Susan went back to school and was certified as a Professional Coach so that she could help the WHOLE person, from the inside out, followed by a degree in Neuro-Linguistic Programming from NLP Canada.

Now Susan is realizing one of her greatest dreams: coaching others and helping them realize their own powerful outcomes. Susan draws from her background as a social scientist and professional athlete, combining her knowledge of human behaviour and performance with her experience in setting and achieving goals. This background has enabled Susan to create a proven and successful system for personal development of all kinds.

Says Susan: "I am passionate about helping people feel good about their lives and themselves, from the inside out. Take it from someone who knows, I am living proof that dreams do come true, no matter how big the obstacles that stand in your way and that it all begins with taking that first step into the unknown!"

Avideh Montmaen-Far, Osteopath

Avideh is a seasoned practitioner of manual therapy. A graduate in Kinesitherapy, Medicine and Osteopathy, she considers people and human health in a holistic manner combining mainstream and alternative medical techniques with age-old traditions of various cultures around the world. Using the skills and experience acquired over nearly twenty years of health-care practice and continual training Avideh will guide each individual patient through the most adequate path to help solve health problems and subsequently to achieve the highest possible degree of well-being.

She holds a D.O. Degree since 2000 ( The Belgian School of Osteopathy, Belgium ) and since she has continued her education in Osteopathy at The British School Of Osteopathy and “Centre de recherche et d'enseignement d'Osteopatie” in France.

While studying medicine in the late 1980s in Europe( ULB, Free University of Brussels) she became conscious of what is perhaps the main limitation of allopathic( western style) medicine, the fact that it considers a human person as a collection of biochemical processes without necessarily catering for subtler aspects of psychology and energy. The terminal illness that eventually took Avideh’s mother provided ample albeit painful opportunity to observe how the allopathic approach often fails to involve the patient in the healing process, while the means and methods it uses are not necessarily respectful of human well-being in the longer term. Reaching this larger understanding of the challenges of modern healthcare, Avideh took the decision to explore and develop medical practices involving an integral vision of human health considering the body as the starting point for identifying sources of imbalance, reduced well-being or illness.

Touching the body to get a good grasp of symptoms and thereon develop and fine intuition of a person’s emotional state to identify adequate treatment is at the core of her practice. Starting from that core understanding of the most adequate path to health and well-being for a given individual, Avideh will select and apply tools coming from her training and practice of kinesiotherapy, Osteopathic manipulative medicine, energy therapy and various traditional medicinal practices.

Ultimately Avideh issues a permanent invitation to each person she guides to use their inner potential and take responsibility for their own long-term well-being.

She is also an artist (graduate in 2D Arts and Animation 2005, The Art Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada), violinist, actrice and medical journalist.

Wendy Jans, Registered Massage Therapist

My ongoing quest and passion to help others feel their best lead me to this career path as a massage therapist. I graduated with honors from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in Toronto in 2007. My goals are to establish a connection with my clients, address the underlying cause of their symptoms, bring relief of pain and discomfort and to educate my clients on injury prevention and health maintenance.

I draw from the many techniques I have learned including deep tissue and sports massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, joint play, Swedish massage and stretching and relaxation techniques. This allows me to design an individual and unique massage treatment that fits the needs of each client, from sports enthusiasts to the general population. I have been described by clients as the therapist who "finds all the spots!"

Whether it's muscle pain due to exercise, postural stress, repetitive strain injuries (driving too long, working at a computer or sports related), or from specific conditions such as arthritis, sciatica, carpal tunnel and chronic low back or neck pain or that you may just need to relax, the benefits of massage can be numerous and long lasting.

I believe massage therapy to be a lifestyle necessity and I am sincerely committed to working with each person to enhance their performance and bring about a positive change in their health and well being.
